CHARACTER
Character Name: Ranma Saotome
Character Age: Not given, approximately 16
Canon: Ranma 1/2
Canon Point:
History: Here!
Personality: Ranma has a rather well-rounded personality. We see him starting off as being very temperamental and opinionated (though for good reason, since he has his fiancé chosen for him without him having any say), fighting his dad and insisting he's going back to China to regain his manhood and train. Anger is usually resolved for him through insults and fists and he can be easily annoyed. He is certainly not careful with his tongue and will think nothing of it when he puts someone else down, often resulting in a well-deserved beating of some sort from the other party.
He thoroughly enjoys and takes pride in his martial arts, and knows he is stronger than most. When he is focused on his martial arts, it is very difficult to lay a blow on him. But it doesn't take much to get him distracted or even a little boastful of his talents. He also knows he is not invincible in a fight and is able to admit when someone is better, and even is not too ashamed to run away from a fight he knows he will probably lose.
Outside of his temper, Ranma seems to be fairly laid back, yet skeptical, in demeanour. He takes just about everything with a grain of salt, can be found observing situations, and lending a hand when he feels like someone needs help. Additionally, to being characteristically 100% male, he has no modesty with his female body. He is unfazed when someone would otherwise see him pulling off his shirt, or having his shirt shredded in a fight when he's female. He's quick to think on his feet in tight spots and can even show a sympathetic side.
Ranma is very devoted to his martial arts, to the point that he admits he is willing to sacrifice himself for it, and even has a pact to commit seppuku (committing suicide while getting beheaded) if he is not able to return home a "man amoung men." And restoring his manlihood properly is of crucial importance to him. Despite being able to casually switch genders, he fully identifies himself as male and 100% heterosexual. Having men flirt with him will send him into nightmares, and having a kiss stolen from a man caused him to go into a sense of shock and run off crying (by one Mikado Sanzenin). He follows it up with being amoung the most angry he has ever been and threatening a fight to the death over his honour.
Ranma's greatest weakness is cats, due to being forced to learn the Cat-Fist Technique when he was ten. This causes a sense of paralysis in him. Additionally, when exposed to his phobia for a prolongued period of time, he will take on the behaviours of a cat. It is said that the only one who could pull him out of this behaviour was an old woman from before, but it is not revealed exactly how it was done.
Ranma has a difficult time turning down challenges, and accepts just about any fight handed to him. He can also get himself into some risqué situations with his female form. Particularly when he pretends to be Ryoga's fiancé to distract him from Akane, getting him an unwanted and unexpected 'pat-down'. His value of martial arts can also overpower his sense of reason, such as when he was asked to lose on purpose so Shampoo would stop bothering him, he said he would rather keep being bothered by Shampoo than lose a fight on purpose.
Ranma does have a morality compass, despite everything else. Such as when Shampoo was taunting him with a "cure" for his girl problem, she demanded a kiss. When Akane thought he kissed Shampoo, he said he wasn't so low as to play with a girl's emotions to get what he wants. However, that didn't stop him from exploiting Akane's guilt shortly thereafter. Additionally, when Akane accidentally swallowed the Forever Love Pill, he wanted to protect Akane and thus sacrificed everything for her to not look, and consequently fall in love with, another man due to the effects of the pill. And when in a fight with Mousse, he protects children from the line of fire from the falling knives.
Ranma can play sarcasm like the best of them and seems to enjoy playing along for the most part, such as when Mousse thought he kidnapped Akane (really stealing her stuffed pig), and when it makes 'oink' noises, he demands that Mousse "stop it because it's making her cry."
As always, here's the section you want to be thorough on. If you're having trouble, ask yourself about your character motivations, how they interact with strangers or friends, what drives them, and how their personalities have developed and grown throughout canon. While we encourage the use of canon examples to back up personality statements, we also value your own voice and opinions here.
Inventory: N/A
Abilities:
Flaws: In theory, the Door only brings in evil and chaos. Here is where you would detail the chaotic parts of your character- let us know some of the bad things about them, maybe some of the wicked acts they've done, why they could have been swept up by the Door. Even small things, like 'he gets angry when someone steals his lunch at work' or 'she oversleeps all the time' will count. If your character is the purest cinnamon roll to ever exist and has nothing horrible about them, then you can put that in this section as well and be an exception to the rule.
SAMPLES
Action Log Sample: We only require one sample in Hadriel, and it can either be in paragraph or bracket form. The sample must be at least 300 word minimum and should demonstrate your character's thoughts and introspection. You may link samples from our monthly Test Drive Meme as well.
